Do I need to make a will?

The answer to that question is "yes". If you do not make a will your estate may not go to the people you want it to. Furthermore, you may not adequately protect your estate from inheritance tax.

For example, if you die without making a will (known as being intestate) your estate will usually be divided amongst your family based on a series of rules. The rules depend on the value of your estate, whether you are married, whether you have children, whether your children are alive etc. To ensure that your wishes are carried-out you must make a will.

There are three options for making a will:

  • Do it yourself: will making requires specialized knowledge and a DIY will can cause many problems in the future for your loved ones
  • use a will writer service: These are not usually qualified solicitors but will still charge a fee
  • use a solicitor: A solicitor will provide expert legal advice and advise you on inheritance tax

A will is one of the most important documents you will posses and it has direct implications for your next of kin when you die. Our team of will and probate solicitors provide straightforward and expert advice on all aspects of your estate. We can also help you through the procedure of obtaining probate, the administration of the estate and advice for the elderly client.
